The White House Solar Panel system is a 9.4 kW grid-tied. Aurora Energy provided a turnkey solution including site analysis, engineering, design and installation for the project.
The system included the installation of 145 roof mounted solar panels, 3 grid-tied inverters and utility interconnection.
In 1979, President Carter had predicted the solar water heater on the White House grounds will ”either be a curiosity, a museum piece, an example of a road not taken, or it can be just a small part of one of the greatest and most exciting adventures ever undertaken by the American people.”
The vast majority of the solar panels President Carter installed went to Unity College in Maine. One is at Carter’s presidential library in Atlanta, Ga., while another is at the Smithsonian’s Museum of American History.
